Welcome to The Team Valley Wellness Centre. Our practice first opened on the Team Valley in Gateshead in 1995, and up until recently was known as The Osteopathic and Chiropractic Centre.
We are an experienced team of chiropractors, sports and massage therapists, and other health professionals who share a belief that good health ultimately derives from the way people eat, move and think. We also believe that true health care should place as much emphasis on preventing ill health and promoting wellbeing as it does on correcting things when something has gone wrong.
In keeping with this holistic, wellness orientated philosophy we offer an expert range of health care services designed to help people of all ages and backgrounds stay active and well.
We have many years of experience in helping people to address problems such as back pain, neck pain and the many other common conditions we treat. However, you don’t have to be in pain to benefit from the care we provide as a significant part of our practice focuses on the role that good nutrition, exercise, posture, general movement patterns and stress management all play in shaping an individual’s quality of health, and on helping our clients use this information to fine tune their lifestyles in ways that will give them greater control of their health.
Ultimately, the care we provide revolves around each individual clients needs, so irrespective of whether you're someone who needs some short term help to tackle a problem that is causing you pain or interfering with your ability to do your job at work, an athlete looking for more of an ongoing relationship in order to avoid injury and perform at your best, a family whose focus is purely on prevention, or someone from one of the many other backgrounds we encounter our caring, friendly and professional health care team is ready to help.
Meet Our Team
Stephen Henderson - Practice Principal
B. App. Sci. (Chiro), G.C.C. Reg. No. 00348
Stephen is originally from Melbourne, Australia. He studied chiropractic at the Phillip Institute of Technology in Melbourne and graduated from its 5 year training program in 1991.
From 1991 to 1998, Stephen worked in various multi-disciplinary health care settings in Melbourne and Sydney, gaining invaluable experience in areas as diverse as paediatrics, family care, sports performance and injury management and occupational health.
In 1998 Stephen moved to the U.K. and joined the team at Team Valley Wellness Centre, becoming the practice principal in 2003.
"Modern lifestyles drive so much ill health. That is incredibly frustrating but it is also something that we can all do something about. It's always exciting to see people start to enjoy the benefits of taking greater control of their health and a real privilege to be able to help people with that process."
Stephen is fully registered with the General Chiropractic Council and most major insurance companies and is a member of both the Scottish Chiropractic Association and the Chiropractors Association of Australia.
In his spare time, Stephen enjoys running and cycling through the beautiful countryside of Northumberland and sneaking onto the local rugby field to practice his Australian Rules goal kicking.
Jacqueline Wilcox - Practice Manager & Clinical Hypnotherapist
Jacqueline is originally from Wales, and after living and working abroad for many years she settled in the North East in 2008 with her young family.
In addition to her role as Practice Manager, Jacqueline also has a strong interest in how past experiences impact upon a person's patterns of thinking and response to stress, and the effects of these changes on their physical and emotional health.
With a background in counselling and therapeutic hypnosis, she has a particular interest in how these tools can be used to help people manage symptoms of chronic pain, stress and anxiety.
In her spare time, Jacqueline enjoys art, spending time with her family, and exploring the beautiful countryside of Northumberland, which reminds her of the beauty of the country around the south coast of Wales.
Billy Robson - Massage Therapist & Personal Trainer
Billy has always loved sport and exercise, and has an intimate understanding of the health benefits that accompany physical activity.
However - as someone who has been active all his life - he also understands how the stresses and strains of everyday life take their toll on the body, and of the important role massage plays in enabling the body to perform at its best.
These two interests provide the foundations for the care he provides within our practice. As a qualified personal trainer with a keen interest in sports and conditioning training Billy's expertise helps to ensure that people are exercising in the most safe and effective way, whilst his skills as a massage therapist help to promote the physical and mental wellbeing of the body.
Billy uses a range of massage techniques, from the more assertive forms of sports massage all the way through to the more soothing and relaxing techniques of Swedish massage, enabling him to tailor the massage he provides according to the individual needs of each client.
Kelly Horne - Sports Therapy & Rehabilitation
Kelly has been an adventurer and an extreme sport enthusiast since childhood and knows from first hand experience how important it is to look after the body if it is to be able to perform at its best.
She aims to help people maintain optimum wellbeing through therapeutic treatments such as sports massage, Swedish massage, cupping, reflexology and aromatherapy. She also uses prescriptive rehabilitative exercises to complement massage treatment she provides for optimum benefit and long lasting results.
The treatment Kelly provides is tailored according to the individual needs of each client in order to provide a completely bespoke experience. She works with a number of local rugby and football teams, and is experienced in the treatment and prevention of a wide range of sporting activities, but also works with those who use massage therapy in its many forms as a way to relax and maintain emotional equilibrium in our busy, fast paced lives.
Pam Orchin - Clinic Assistant
Pam joined the team at The Team Valley Wellness Centre in 2009, having worked in a number of other health care settings and participated in a range of continuing professional development programs over the preceding 15 years. She brings a wealth of experience to her role in helping our patients get the greatest possible benefit from their care.
Pam's ability to empathise with our patients stems in no small part from her own personal experience. After having back problems for many years Pam has found that chiropractic adjustments have been the only treatment that has really worked for her, and now continues to have periodic "MOT" visits to help keep her in optimal health.
"I love meeting people from all walks of life, and enjoy being able to offer them support and advice regarding their care, so in many ways this is my ideal vocation.
After seeing how I have benefitted from my care over the years my husband, two children and five grandchildren all now have chiropractic check ups to help maintain their health and wellbeing."
